Sorry for the extreme lack of updates. We’ve, well, been working on your game.
I’m still working now, but it’s about time we show another character. So, here he is–the new version of Malco, the friendly robot. Pixel did an awesome job on this one.
By the way, you might want to check out IGN Wii this Wednesday. I hear they’re going to have some direct-feed videos of some WiiWare game.

I wonder what game it will be
November 25th, 2008 at 5:55 am
this is - awful. the face doesnt look right at all.. at least nothing like i would imagine the robot. i always though of it as a catface like robot but the large chin… just some criticism
November 25th, 2008 at 6:55 am
I wouldn’t say awful, but… I definitely imagined Malco with a different face. Not to say that the new style is bad, (it’s pretty good, actually!) I just expected something… different, like Oehr said.
November 25th, 2008 at 7:11 am
well yes, the style is good, but the face/head just is somewhat different from what i imagined it might be like in real life… the big chin just makes it look ugly…

I always figured Malco (and similar robots you see scrapped elsewhere in the game) was part of the “first wave” of bots on the island, so it makes since for him to be a clanky retro-style robot. The mechanical underbite only adds to his character, and I imagine he’ll look pretty amusing when animated. It’s a perfect fit IMO

that should be “makes sense”, I obviously haven’t had my caffeine yet this morning ;_;

>Oehr
I thought that at first too, but, ACTUALLY, scaled down
(to his original size), he looks pretty good.
November 25th, 2008 at 11:34 am
Very robotic. :]
The eyes are a nice touch too.
November 25th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
i scaled it down and it sure does look much better now, though its still nothing like i imagined. heres the scaled down version:

Although, isn’t this update of Malco’s sprite from before Balrog gives him his “facelift”? XD
November 26th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
I’d also like to add there are atill some text problems, especially dialogue that also end up outside the text box field.

Ah, direct video feed. Much better than the shaky hands of humans!
I’m impressed of how much you guys have worked on it! Still, the game is far from perfect. The other Mimigas (save for Mahin and frenzied Igor [but not the death animation!]) still haven’t received their facelift yet, and damage was disabled. (perhaps for demonstration purposes?) The music, while different from the previous videos, still have much to be improved upon (comon, some notes were actually too high for the current sound engine?)
I’m sure you guys have worked your butts off so far, but if this is how much you’ve guys done so far, you got a bit of work to do… (again, I’m impressed, and thanks for showing us your progress!)
I’ll be behind you guys all the way!

I saw the videos on IGN.
Graphics look great, pace and feel of the game looks just right, but…
please
please
please
please
PLEASE
do yourselves a favour and don’t release any more videos until you get the music fixed. Because what I heard in these videos sounded… just… bad.
I don’t want to be the hardcore fan whining about every little change people make in a port. I’ve got faith you guys are going to get it right, possibly even nailed it in the latest build. But videos like these do nothing to promote your game, they can only put people off. Silence would have been better…
Aside from that, I am really looking forward to this release.
November 27th, 2008 at 9:13 am
I was really hoping that was just poor audio quality on their part…
Looks good so far, but still needs a lot of work.

Hey… just thought I’d finally comment. I’ve been checking the site pretty regularly, but haven’t commented. I think part of it was that I was trying to avoid spoilers…
Anyway, this is an awesome looking game, and I will be downloading it.
Keep up the good work!
(P.S. The new robot design looks a little weird, but whatever, I’ll accept it if that is the creator’s design! Most of the new designs have been great btw.)

He doesnt have a big chin, his mouth is drawn high because he’s smiling, being hes a “Friendly Robot” and his cheeks are shown by those white lines. I think hes adorable ^^
But really, no update since thanksgiving? whats up with that? The post before malco had nothing to do with cave story (although that Nigoro site kicks ass).
Update please!

>Nakamura
Uhh.. doesn’t he kinda try to DESTROY YOU before balrog crushes him?
And regarding the update thing, if i remember correctly.. they said something about a holiday release, so.. they’re probably workin hard to get it out before the newyear.
December 6th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
He looks a little bit busy, but it’s a little better scaled down. I thought his name was malloc? Like the C function. Curly Brace, Quote, and malloc.
December 9th, 2008 at 11:22 am
It’s been some time since an update…
My guess would be that the team is really involved in finishing things up!
I would really like to see the game by the end of the year, but either way, I want it to be ready and fine-tuned.
Can’t wait to see what extras get added in, too!
December 12th, 2008 at 11:23 am
i think they are working hard on fixing this:

Would it really be reasonable for it let it come out in time for late December? It might seem kind of rushed if it were the case. Give it at least late January or early Feb of next year. I do hope the game goes under rigorous bug testing.
December 14th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
I agree that this game should NOT be rushed out the door. There’s too much at stake!
Even so, I’d like to see a simple post or update, just to see if the project is still alive or not! I REALLY do NOT want to see another “Variant Interactive” fiasco!
December 14th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
This most definitely should not be rushed. If for whatever reason they need more time, I, myself wouldn’t mind.
As for updates, I’m not too concerned. Tyrone and Amaya-san are most likely hard at work making CS Wii as awesome as possible. I have faith in them that it won’t end up like Variant Interactive’s CS PSP.
December 16th, 2008 at 6:52 am
Oehr: Hah! Somebody else besides me noticed that!
I’d also rather they didn’t rush this game out. They should take all the time they need and make sure Cave Story Wii is out in the best form it can be.
December 17th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
I’m hoping a disgruntled employee working 20 hours a day didn’t come in and end this project early. Seriously though, if there is a problem Pixel or a legal department might have done something.

So.. tyrone, i bought some WiiPoints recently, wanna give me something to spend them on?
December 29th, 2008 at 11:08 am
I hope they update soon. It’s been over a month. At least something that says “Stop bugging us, we’re working” or something to that extent.
December 30th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Hmmm… while they aren’t going to make that “holiday release” timeline, I hope that we can see some new tentative release date soon. I’m getting concerned…
December 31st, 2008 at 11:19 am
I hope everything is going okay with the game! Won’t someone please post something to satiate the curiosity of the fans? Tyrone, are you there??
January 1st, 2009 at 12:11 am
Honestly, a month without any signs of life… a cease and desist? silence due to legality? Leaving fans in the dust like this warrants such extremes.
January 1st, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Legality issues are highly unlikely. Tyrone is working together with Pixel, the original creator of the game, so who could possibly write a cease and desist?
I suspect technical difficulties, or personal matters, maybe both. Wouldn’t be the first time something like this happens. Remember that we are talking about an extremely small team.
I suggest to stay optimistic as there is no indication whatsoever that something has gone wrong.
January 3rd, 2009 at 8:17 am
I hope the project is still going as planned, I look forward to playing CS for the 6th time on my TV!
