Yes, we’ve been MIA for a bit. No, I’m not dead. And, no, Cave Story for Wii hasn’t been killed. Truth be told we did try to make it in time for Christmas, however, we weren’t able to do so. We’ve taken more time to make sure everything is perfect.
We’re still working away at Cave Story trying to make sure it’s faithful to Amaya-san’s original while adding a few things for the console release. One of these new additions, I’m happy to announce is Download Content. I think we received enough e-mails demanding it that we’re doing our best to include some new surprises in the WiiWare release. You’re going to have to wait for more info on that.
In other related Cave Story news, there’s a whole lotta caverage (horrible pun) this month. Be sure to pick up the January issues of EGM and Play Magazine. Both magazine have some info on Cave Story, Play magazine’s Heather Campbell also interview Amaya-san. Thanks to both publications for the support!
By the way, as Nicklas mentioned, our other project, Night Game was nominated for IGF. Wooh!

Ditto, I wasn’t expecting DLC, but I’m sure it’ll be awesome
Thanks for the update, and take all the time you need.

Hey man! Glad to see the blog posting back! Hope your Christmas was great.
Now I’m REALLY excited about Cave Story for Wii. Downloadable Content? The fact that there’s any extra content on top of the original game gives me the chills. Don’t worry about releasing it ASAP- because we want this to be the best that it can be… just er… try to make it within 2009 plz?
heh.
And congrats on Night Game- never heard of it till now though! Sounds interesting!

Wait, does that mean that Cave Story was in the last official printed issue of EGM?
Because EGM is over and done now — the very last issue will be published online.

Hmm… Downloadable Content, eh?
I dunno. I guess I’ll be more comfortable (or perhaps less comfortable) when I see some pricing points. I can live with it if it’s like MegaMan 9’s prices ($10 for the game, $2 for the DLC on average). I am personally hoping for a smaller price than $10 for the game, but I suppose $10 is great for such an amazing game.
I am predicting a Curly Mode, a new “Hell” type stage, and perhaps a King or Misery mode. Now that I think of it, Misery Mode would be bad-ass.

My your mind is a narrow one. Hasn’t it crossed your mind that there could be downloadable games that have their own stories and nothing to do with Cave Story, but simply use it’s engine? That is to say, one would modify the original PC game, submit the end result to Nicalis, and…
